Window Miner

windowMiner.png

Is staring at documents and emails boring? Well now anymore, with Window Miner! Mine colorful gems while you work without doing a thing, and exchange them for dazzling cursor decorations! Throw confetti in the air, fire off lightning bolts, play with fire!

This game was the product of a 48 hour game jam, where the theme was "animation", where the main focus of the game had to be on animation. I worked on a team of 2 as the programmer, vfx artist, and animator.

Work for this project technically didn't begin until there were only 36 hours left. The original team I was a part of disbanded, leaving me alone. My team member wasn't picked up until 24 hours had passed. We persevered, pulled through, and delivered a unique product for the game jam.

Contributions

  • Developed an inventory, shop, and settings framework using list-based data structures and delegate-driven callbacks, enabling modular UI interactions and extensible feature development.

  • Implemented mining gameplay logic that coordinated progression, rewards, and interactive desktop elements.

  • Engineered transparent desktop window functionality through integration with the User32 and DWM API libraries, allowing animated overlays to seamlessly coexist with the user's desktop environment.

  • Designed and implemented a JSON-based save/load system to persist user settings, progression data, and application state across sessions.

  • Created animated cursor-following visual effects using Unity's particle system to enhance desktop interactivity and visual feedback.

  • Produced custom animation sequences, including mining and pickaxe-swing actions, to reinforce application responsiveness and user engagement.
